What are you doing for Halloween (Day 3)? We've FOUND ONE!

Now we're starting to cook with quality Olive oil....
I am happy to write that I've found (what I think) is a Really, really good Horror film with an
original concept.  And it's funny!

Okay be patient as I build this particular film up a bit because I'm completely surprised that the film's distributor did not have either enough faith or the marketing ideas to promote this film like a "Scream". I remember seeing the Wes Craven film at an advance late night screening and we were asked to not "spoil" the ending for anyone else when the film is released. I also recall that film not making much money in the first week and then suddenly the film built momentum afterwards to become the franchise that it is now...

I compare these films only because of its originality within the genre as they both carry the humor as well.

The film I'm championing is called "THE FINAL GIRLS"!!!!

I saw the film trailer a month ago and thought
"Oh shit, this looks like a winner". Again, it felt original but we all know how well Film trailers can be made to look...

Plot: Present day, a struggling actress and Mom, whose last hit was an 80s Horror, Slasher film "Camp Bloodbath" returns from an audition and she and her teenage daughter get into a car crash
wherein the Mom dies...
Three years later, the daughter, "Max" is asked to attend the fan screening of this very film in honor of her mom. A fire breaks out and the "Max" and her friends end up in the Slasher film.
The genre also mixes in time travel manipulation and humor while maintaining the effects of being a classic Horror film. Yes I said "classic" as this film will go down in cult status.

Kudos to the director Todd Strauss-Schulson for being able to recreate that entire 80s Horror look.
And the writers M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller for this fresh take on a Horror film, especially now where so many Horror films were released Theatrically, this month, which I think is
awesome (it's Halloween!).
However if the films aren't very good nor pulling in the fans of the genre then there's a problem.

If box office machines Vin Diesel and a the "Paranormal Activity" franchise can't do well in this of October then there's a problem.
Hell, Guillermo del Toro can't stir up box office (especially since he has a horror TV show,"The Strain") then there's a problem...

Or is it that we’re being poisoned by a "Hater Nation"? That's a story for another time...

Anyhow, I was surprised to learn that the co writer of "The Final Girls" is actor Joshua John Miller who portrayed the young boy "Homer" in "Near Dark". And he was also known as the little brat in "River's Edge". So he is no stranger to the genre as "Near Dark" is yet another Horror film that spun the vampire flick on its head.

In closing, I am asking that you please rent or purchase
"The Final Girls" (via VOD) as this will make for an awesome addition for Halloween aka "Candy" day which now switching to "Candy and Costume" day.

Also, if you haven't seen "Near Dark" then I suggest adding it to the Halloween film roster for anyone watching scary content this weekend. It would be a great compliment with "The Final Girls"
