So George Lucas wants to make smaller films huh?

I just read the article where Mr. Lucas stated that he will next be making smaller, personal films that will only play in small art house theatres. He has gotten fed up with how the studios treated and rejected his film "Red Tails" which revolves around the Black military unit known as the "Tuskegee Airmen". His vison consisted on a three part arc that would be used as an educational toold for the young Black youth.

I am totally in support of seeing these films get made. However on Mr. Lucas, welcome to the perspective of an Independent filmmaker and how most are treated on a daily basis when the requested Studio reps don't bother to come to our screenings. Or when they will not finance our indie films...  I think Lucas is suffering from being wealthy and having the studios submit to almost all of your whims and forgetting what it was like to have to finance your own projects. In other words "the struggle". This would hvae been avoided if he produced more smaller films way back when when the Indie scene was at it's "pop" cultural peak in the 90s. I'm sure many filmmakers would give their right testicle to be mentored under someone like Lucas and he would have seen how diffifcult it was to gather financing when the artist is not looking to blow things up (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Anyhow, the article explained how Lucas screened the film last December to Spike Lee and Lee Daniels and as he pitched the concept before screening, he wanted Spike to direct the Prequel and that he'd get another Daniels for the final installment, (Spike was interested). Once again, I'm all for that

However... Wouldn't a better idea be that he get them involved at the beginning so they could also help promote the film as well. Spike whom was at Sundance this past weekend
(whom raised his own money for his most recent film "Red Hook Summer") I'm sure would have helped promote as he would have an invested interest in the overall project.

Also something this Great I feel might have been better suited for cable where a more full story could be told. HBO already had a movie on the "Airmen" so they would have probably jumped on this QUICK!

It's George Lucas everyone who wouldn't jump at this...

Well..... Maybe not these days as evident
