Nicolas Cage: The Real Actor

So I got a chance to see The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.

*Please note this is not a remake but an actual sequel with different characters.

I absolutely loved this film. The way Cage portrayed the character of an unruly
detective that seems to always get promoted for acts of bravery or busting cases wide open but underneath it all are his dark methods for getting things done PLUS he's a hardcore addict whom gets caught up in various criminal situation. And Damn, it's the vintage Nicolas Cage before Ghost Rider and Con Air. You remember that guy that cared about the structural content of a story and off beat characters

Werner Herzog put together a very great cast of characters actors including Jennifer Coolidge, Fairuza Balk (whom I wish I could see more of) Brad Dourif and Val Kilmer (who could have easily ripped the lead role up as well. Each have their quirks about them which almost balances Cage's dark character. It's dark, funny, and trippy at the same time. An it rounds itself out nicely at the end. I also enjoyed the unusual relationship between Cage and Eva Mendes' prostitute character as she seems to almost keep him centered. Now I'm not a typical film critic who goes into detail about everything but if you're longing for old school Cage check it out.

It's a pretty good character piece
