When I watch the "Miami Vice" movie, I often wonder how much influence Mann had with the original show. As the story goes, he was looking for a television cop drama and Universal fed him the "Vice" script and the rest was history. I like Mann but sometimes I wonder about his choices. I thought he tossed aside a great marketing opportunity when he denied Cuba Gooding the part "Collateral" (which went to Jamie Foxx). Both are really talented but Mann told Gooding something like "Oh, You've already worked with him Tom before..." Now I have nothing against Foxx but anyone who enjoyed "Jerry McGuire" must admit that the chemistry between Gooding and Cruise would have been great to see again. Especially with Foxx winning the Oscar for "RAY" that same year (as a matter of fact, he was nominated for both films.. Damn!!!)
NOTE*** Foxx auditioned for the Rod Tidwell part in "Mcguire" but didn't take it seriously and lost out to...
