My thoughts on the Blu-Ray format

I love new and innovative advancements in technology and therefore I was essentially ecstatic when the thought of the Blu-Ray format was introduced. BUT, Unless I am ahead of the creative curve, I feel the full advantages of the format is thus far wasted. Here you have a Digital disc capable of holding up to 50 gigs of storage and studios are releasing 4 -5 disc boxed set of "Cheers". Most times each disc are about 9 gigabytes, so why can't an entire season be placed onto one 50gb Blu-Ray disc? I've read many articles where they state that retail stores are running out of shelf space. Some are implementing Kiosk where one can enter data regarding your requested DVD and it's either burned and created as you wait or an order is placed and sent via mail. With Blu-Ray... one disk, one box = more space. Sounds like a plan to me...
